Christiana Schallhorn and Nikolaus Beck join CRSA

We are happy to announce that Prof. Dr. Christiana Schallhorn and Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Beck join our center as of December 2021.

Christiana Schallhorn joins us as an advisory board member and will help guide our research and education activities in the future. Nikolaus Beck joins us as an associate member and will mainly cooperate on interdisciplinary research projects in the future. Previously, we have closely worked with Nikolaus Beck on the Swiss Doctoral Program for Research in Sports for Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Christiana Schallhorn

Christiana Schallhorn has been junior professor of sport sociology at the University of Mainz (Germany) since 2019. She did her PhD in communication science at the University of Würzburg in 2016. Her research focuses on the relationship between sport, the media, and society. She is particularly interested in the societal and social significance of sport influenced by the media. Her studies are characterized by interdisciplinary approaches (e.g. sociological, communication science and psychological) and international perspectives (e.g. cross-national comparative studies).

Nikolaus Beck

Nikolaus Beck is Professor at the Faculty of Economics of USI. He studied in Erlangen and Aberdeen and has an MA in Sociology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He received his PhD in Business administration at the University of Mannheim and his habilitation from the University of Erfurt. His articles have been published in Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Studies, Strategic Organization, and other outlets. His research interests include New Institutional Theory, Population Ecology, and organizational change. He often uses sports data to test hypotheses in studies that address these theoretical concepts.
