A new semester at University of Zurich

The fall semester started this week, and we wish all students a good start and a strong term ahead.

We are proud of how much ground our members cover in the teaching at the Department of Business Administration this term. Three master-level modules are running this semester, alongside one bachelor-level seminar.

The Economics of Sports: Governance and Markets with Prof. Dr. Egon Franck treats sport as an industry in its own right, covering the governance structures of professional team sports and how they connect to the markets around them.

Sports Data-Based Management and Economics: Current Research Topics with Prof. Dr. Raphael Flepp works through current publications that use sports data in management and economics research. Participants present a paper and write two reviewer reports. It builds on the spring lecture "Sports Data-Based Management and Economics", and students who attended it are given priority.

Fundamentals of Digital Marketing with Prof. Dr. Andrea Giuffredi-Kähr runs from value proposition design and analytics through search engine optimisation, social media and paid advertising. Each group builds and promotes a project of its own across the semester and presents it at the end.

And at bachelor level, Quantitative Methods in SpORts with Prof. Dr. Christiane Barz, Prof. Dr. Helmut Dietl, Prof. Dr. Raphael Flepp and Prof. Dr. Oleg Prokopyev applies quantitative and operations research methods to sporting problems, from league scheduling to fantasy sports. It is open to business administration students and to bachelor students from other programmes.

For students interested in working in sport, these courses provide a strong foundation for understanding and navigating the industry.
