Frank Rühli studied Medicine at the University of Zurich, worked as an assistant at the Institute of Diagnostic Radiology, and completed a PhD at the University of Adelaide. He served as a professor and head of the Center of Evolutionary Medicine at the University of Zurich before becoming Director of the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine in 2014. He has extensive experience teaching gross anatomy, histology, paleopathology, biomedical imaging, and biological anthropology, and has supervised multiple PhD, BScHons, MD, DVM, and DMD dissertations. He currently heads the cross-sectional disciplines at the Medical Faculty in Zurich.
